Prime Reactions Review – Digimon Adventure: Episode 9

1

Okay, so what does the giant rock say? The thing that the kids risked life and… Sora’s Mimi’s towel for?

“The Holy Digimon is within our hands of darkness. Now that power…”

So… nothing? Why couldn’t the writers have Tai read this last time? Also, the bad guys wrote this message, right? Why are the bad guys protecting it? They set up this elaborate security system of Digimon to protect this fortress to presumably protect this rock. But then they send Metaltyrannomon to nuke the place meaning unless it’s indestructible, they never cared about the rock… If they didn’t want the kids to find it, why not destroy it in the first place?

Ogremon fights Greymon because he broke your horn. Greymon broke your horn because you were fighting. But because you’re fighting now, you no longer care about your horn and want to help the kids? There’s no revelation here. No indication that either are fight junkies besides Mimi’s comment and all of a sudden we have an obligatory respect ending from Ogremon. Why didn’t this happen the first time you fought? What made this fight different?

Izzy and Tentomon have arrived! The meme is over.

So I understand why no one interfered with the Ogremon fight but besides budget, why doesn’t anyone help against Metaltyrannomon? The secondary kids being reduced to bystanders isn’t supposed to happen this early.

Ultimate Reflections:
I hate to be so… negative but there’s just not enough going on besides fighting. That along with both Greymon and Garurumon’s sequences and repetitive flashbacks that serve no purpose really padded this out. Ogremon barely says a word. I go along with it because I’m supposed to. Not because anything he does resonates with me.

Other than the objectively more animated and choreographed action scenes, I’m preferring the original by a wide margin. It just had more going on in so many areas. Knowing this show will be 66 episodes and we’re already getting Metalgreymon next episode makes me wonder what they can fill that many episodes with besides action.
